RECYCLE DROP OFF CENTER EAST OF THE WATER TREATMENT PLANT @ THE CORNER OF MAIN AND JACKSON STREETS
In an effort to reduce costs paid for tipping fees and to protect the environment the City would like to encourage everyone to recycle. The City built a shed for materials to be dropped off at no charge. You may dispose of plastics (#1 & #2), paper, cardboard (corrugated/lightweight press board) and aluminum/tin cans. Please clean out plastics and tin cans. Labels do not have to be removed. Waste does need to be sorted. Glass is not accepted.
The City of Elk Point Landfill & Recycle Center are open to all City Residents
Hours of operation:
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Under camera surveillance.
WE TAKE SCRAP METAL & YARD WASTE ONLY – NO DUMPSTERS AT THE LANDFILL ANYMORE
During Landfill hours the following charges apply:
Pick up Load $25.00
Truck/trailer Load $65.00
White Goods $15.00 (white goods & appliances – ex. dryer, washers)
Disposal of yard waste and tree branches are always FREE OF CHARGE.

Go past McKelvey Fireworks and the old Statuary
Take the first gravel road to the right and follow down

What's Allowed
Examples untreated wood, and trees. Unpainted construction lumber only.
Yard Waste, including leaves, branches, grass, AND similar vegetation (fruit). To dispose of yard waste, it is free unless you are a Commercial Hauler. You must remember to dispose the leaves, branches, apples, etc. from the bags and then you must place the bags in your garbage for curbside pickup, since bags are plastic.
Commercial Haulers: Yard waste generated in the City of Elk Point: $100.00 per month
A written contract may be entered into between commercial haulers and the City of Elk Point. Said written agreement shall be provided and executed by the Street Superintendent.
White Goods: washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters, and other SCRAP METAL, excluding fuel tanks.
What's Not Allowed
The landfill no longer accepts refrigerators or freezers because they contain freon. The resident must call the state to find the nearest place to dispose of it.
Other restricted wastes include hazardous waste, including conditionally exempt small quantity generator (CESQG) waste, pesticide containers, petroleum contaminated soil, regulated asbestos containing materials, lead-acid batteries, putrescible wastes, and ash is not acceptable at the site. The resident must call the state to find the nearest place to dispose of it.
Do not dispose of medical waste in the garbage for curbside pickup. Please dispose of medical waste properly. The City is not licensed to dispose of them for you! Again, the resident must call the state to find the nearest place to dispose of it.
NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS
CITY OF ELK POINT
This notice shall provide that each occupant, person in charge or owner of any lot shall cut and keep cut at all times during the growing season all weeds, noxious weeds, grass and noxious vegetation. Upon failure, neglect or refusal of any owner, agent or occupant so notified to comply with said notice within five (5) days to so cut such grass, weeds and noxious vegetation, the city will cause the same to be cut. The City may defray the cost of the work, including administrative costs, by special assessment against the property as set out in Section 3.0104 (D). One such notice shall be sufficient for each growing season. A copy of the ordinance is available at City Hall (106 W. Pleasant St.)
